EVERYTHING IS TEMPORARY
Looking back on my first podcast from May about how everything changes, it’s funny to see how the then inescapable fear of nuclear war with Russia and by the minute updates on Ukraine have slipped from the daily news. The same is true of covid, Dominic Cummings, Boris Johnson, the former Queen and even the new King.
It feels like they all happened a couple of years ago. But writing this in October, they all happened quite literally weeks ago.
I saw a video clip last night of my son Walking on the wall on the way home from his final day of nursery this summer. He’s currently on his first half term break of primary school, sitting on my lap watching Peppa Pig as I type this out. I’d forgotten I filmed that moment, I was certain it was incredibly significant as I was filming it, and now looking back on it, it is massively significant to me, but it had become lost in a sea of moments that have made up the past three years.
An hour ago I was considering Triller and how in October 2020 we said it could pick up speed as Trump was aching to ban TikTok, but by autumn last year it had pivoted to become a tool to create content to upload to other sites.
I spoke extensively to the media this time last year about Clubhouse and the rise of both audio first social media and private networks. By January this year though Twitter and co had their own products which emulated the platform and Clubhouse itself had slid away from private conversations with celebrities and business leaders, to covid conspiracy theories, crypto scams and political extremists.
As I said in May, everything is temporary.
